Jessica: "That's Edward Cullen. He's totally gorgeous, obviously."
In the school cafeteria, Bella sees the Cullens for the first time and comes to find that she has a class with Edward.
In the icy school parking lot, a van skids toward Bella as she stands next to her truck. Edward swoops in, stops the van with his hand, and saves Bella from being crushed.
At a beach party in La Push, Bella flirts with Jacob to learn more about the Cullens and the legend of wolves and vampires.
"Hello. I'm sorry I didn't get a chance to introduce myself last week. I'm Edward Cullen." - Edward Cullen
News of an animal attack that killed one of Charlie's friends indicates the arrival of nomad vampires: James, Laurent and Victoria.
Edward Cullen: "You didn't answer my question."
Bella Swan: "You don't answer any of mine, so... I mean, you don't even say hi to me."
Edward Cullen: "Hi."
Edward drives up in time to rescue Bella from drunk men in an alley. Upon learning that she missed dining with her friends, Edward makes sure she gets something to eat. Over dinner, he reveals to Bella that he can read minds, except for hers.
Edward confirms Bella's suspicions that he is a vampire. In a meadow, she first sees his skin sparkle in the sunlight, and he demonstrates his deadly speed and strength.
A thunderstorm gives the Cullens an excuse to show Bella how vampire baseball is played before the Nomads arrive to confront them. James spots Bella and makes her his target.
James tracks Bella down and lures her into a deadly trap. Edward arrives in time to stop him, and the Cullens tear James apart.
Edward and Bella go to prom.
